Mental Health and Physical Health
Mental Health
It can be easily understood that physiology and psychology are the two riders that go together regarding human health. The ancient Ayurveda medical textbook 'Charaka Samhita' by Saint Agnivesha, the preceptor of Sage Sarakar clearly establishes the connection between mental and physical health complementing each other. The ecstatic or sad state of mind affects the body and also the health of the body compelling the suitable maintenance of stable mental status to lead a happy life.
- Good thoughts and frame of mind play important roles in the health of the body. Food nourishes the body so do thoughts to the mind.
- Positive thinking and vision contribute to the positive upkeep of health and spoils when it is negative.
- Optimism, cheerful expressions, a smiling face, positive approach in work in the home and office keep mental health in proper equilibrium.
- If the mind is trained to look at success and failures equally in a philosophical outlook it never hurts. Anger, greed, jealousy, over ambition, are the causes of stress both to the mind and body.
- Good, pleasant, melodious music, mantras, meditation or pranayama are the best alternatives to have a relaxed state of mind and body.
- In unavoidable situations of tension, failures, and torrid times, a discussion or counselling with a good, reliable friend or a teacher or a relative will bring solace and give some comfort.
- Thinking, doing, and talking about good things will always empower the mind and body in a relaxed state.
Physical Health
We often see people rushing to drug stores, medical shops and Doctors for even very common and simple illnesses like cough, cold, fever, inflammation, body pain, headache etc., that do not need any chemical-based drug unless the condition is serious. Simple natural medication or rest will solve the illness prompting avoidance of drugs.
The biological system of a human gets accustomed to its regular routine and the human body loses its resistance power unless a walk in a sizzling rain or scorching Sun at least for a few minutes is tried. Profuse sweating will definitely remove a lot of body waste.
Good food and suitable exercise are the requirements for good health.
Our ancestors have included some of the important medicinal constituents in our daily food as invisible ingredients. These items give flavour and also have medicinal effects during the consumption of food. Turmeric, Asafoetida, black pepper, coriander, till, cumin, ginger, and garlic, are a few to mention here for their medicinal value.
Practising Yogas like Yogacharya and Yoga asana are the best for the health of the mind and body.
