Hunger and Longing

 Hunger and Longing

Hunger - literally, it is about the sensation of wanting to eat something. But does this have another meaning? Yes. It does.
At the heart of human hunger lies a profound desire for something beyond mere sustenance. It may be a hunger for sex, the hunger for recognition, the hunger for companionship, the hunger for fame, the hunger for self-expression, the hunger for a feeling of importance, the hunger for freedom from cruelty and slaver, the hunger for peace from suffering.
When you are starving and feeling hungry for food, it should be appetising and plentiful to fill your belly.
When you desire to have sex, it should be enjoyable and satisfying, and give you the pleasure you are looking for.
The hunger for companionship will be fulfilled only when your choice is appropriate and a fair measure of agreeableness crops up.
But here comes the question of whether we really get all we want or all we desire.
The answer will definitely be a 'no'. The Quantum of expectation by the mind does not come under any scale of measure, and there is always a possibility for the scale to oscillate either way.
Similarly, our desires may be illusory, and our capacity or capability may not align with them.
There is a great saying that many miss out on the silver lining as they expect Gold.
Longing
It is not uncommon to find people who make fun of those who are deformed, ugly, or do not do a job or work to others' satisfaction. They tend to forget that Life has its own lessons and ways to teach them.
It would be a noble and exquisite manner to lift somebody out of the rut of consciousness of his shortcoming or failure, defect or deformity, by pinpointing the goodness in others. This will have a significant impact on their general morale and make them happy.
We, every one of us at one stage or another, are longing for something that we miss - a cheer to boost the sagging spirit in the dreary, monotonous life.
A lady was expressing her feelings in the following way:
"I hear from my friends and relatives that My husband always praised me to them and wonderful things about my care. But I miss something because he never gets around to saying these words of praise to me, to my face"
The above expression, a longing for the exposure of love, however trivial it may seem, enlightens something about our daily life. We all tend to let those we love take our love for granted. We forget that everyone has a need to be assured that they are loved.
Love is sharing. Kindly talk about your feelings, your experiences, in your walk of life - maybe as a housewife, secretary, businessman, a job-goer, a teacher, or an actor. It will definitely be interesting.
Talk less, say more, and earn the compliment.
Best wishes,
