Hindu mythology describes dynamic rivers as the 'elixir of immortality' and highlights their purifying nature in a spiritual context, as shown in myths, rituals, and religious practices across cultures. The Rigveda specifically praises rivers in the Nadi-stuti Sukta, referring to seven sacred rivers in India as mentioned in the sloka.

While taking a bath in the rivers, a prayer is referred to in the Rigveda in its 10th chapter under the 9th verse as a submission meaning as under:

"Whatever sin is found in me, whatever wrong things are done by me knowingly or unknowingly, and the lies uttered by me along with those wrongly sworn, I pray the waters to remove it far from me.

Bathing in the Ganges

In Bhagavat Gita 1oth Kanda Verse 31, Lord Krishna mentions himself as the Ganges amongst rivers. All Vedic sastras recommend bathing in the Ganges to get completely freed from all sinful reactions. Moksha or Salvation can be attained by taking a bath in the holy Ganges, as referred to in the Bhagavat Gita Chapter 9 -9-14, as the river Ganges is the Supreme Lord Himself in the form of Water.

Shri Mahadeva, the great scholar of Astrology, lived from 1842 AD to 1888 AD and is believed to be a descendant of Maharishi Parasara. In his JATAKA TATVA, a masterful text on Natal Astrology, he has given SUTRAS in five parts covering the important factors of Astrology. Shri. S. S. Sareen has translated the book into English, and the following are excerpts from the book.

I am giving a few hints taken from Shri Mahadev's JATAKA TATVA relating to the 9th Bhava, a trine, which is spiritual in nature.

1. If Rahu or the Sun occupy the 10th house, the native shall have the opportunity to bathe in the Ganges.

2. If Jupiter is in the 10th house, the native is fortunate enough to bathe in the Ganges.

3. If the lord of the 2nd house, Venus and Jupiter are exalted, the native shall bathe in the Holy Ganges.

4. If the Moon gets the aspect of a benefic planet in the 3rd house, which is a watery sign, the native shall bathe in the Ganges.

5. If the 9th house is aspected by Jupiter, the native shall bathe in the Holy Ganges.

6. If the full Moon and Jupiter are in the 10th house, the native will get the opportunity of bathing in the Ganges.

7. If Venus and Jupiter conjoin in a Quadrant (Kendra), the native shall get the chance of bathing in the Ganges.

8. If Mercury or the lord of the Sign occupied by him is in the 12th house, the native shall have a chance to bathe in the Ganges.

9. If the lord of the 9th house, aspected by a benefic planet occupy a Quadrant (Kendra) which is a watery sign, the native shall bathe in the Ganges.

I am a standing example of the above as my Natal Chart fulfils three conditions: 1, 5, 8 blessed to have a bathe in the Holy Ganges.
