TECH(NEURO) DAMAGE - THE NEED FOR DIVINITY

TECH(NEURO) DAMAGE - THE NEED FOR DIVINITY

In today's edition of 'Times Nation', I read an article that raised an alarm about what our younger generation is suffering from. That News titled 'Not Just Kids, many adults are discovering they have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). It was about a homemaker woman who was herself suffering, and her son, who was diagnosed with ADHD, after his academic report carried the comments 'intelligent but careless' or 'distracted in class'.

The alarming truth is that exposure to ADHD only through this news column has remained or is felt in almost every home ever since technology and gadgets have taken over the time of almost every individual, shrinking their heart and thoughts, but filling them up with a race against time.

The News goes on to add that more and more children are being diagnosed with some version of this neurodevelopmental disorder, paying little attention. Apart from children, many adults in their 40s and 50s are also discovering what they had internalized as chronic laziness or disorganised tendencies, which is an integral part of undiagnosed ADHD. In the majority of cases, this has been detected only when the medical advisors treat their patients for other disorders like substance abuse or anxiety.

Was this really felt before 3 - 4 decades? Certainly not. It is an impact of technology on human stamina and immunity. Sitting unmoved in their positions for hours, close to monitors, junk food replacing healthy diets, as it becomes a must to skip regular meals due to a lack of time.

If this is the case in an office, after-hours or early mornings play a crucial role for a family person in modern times. From getting up in the morning to preparing the kids for school and homework, the demands of extracurricular activities create unavoidable pressure and mounting tension, which are ultimately passed on to the kids. It is an untold mystery to the kids to carry heavy loads of academic pressure, the high expectations of the parents, and the pressure from the teaching staff. The thrust on them to compete against each other makes them run mentally, though not physically.

Now, all the factors mentioned above, put together, point to one thing: the advantage people enjoyed 3-4 decades ago. The time they had left to think everything in detail, analyse, and act. It gave them ample time to sit with family, spend time together, and give kind love and attention to the kids, apart from being spiritual and spending a few minutes to pray to the Almighty for the wellbeing of the family and the universe.

RIGVEDA VERSE SAYS:

Traataaro devaa adhi vochata no
maa mo nidraa ishata mota jalpihi
Vayam somasya vishwaha priyasasaha
suviraaso vidthamaa vademII

One should always be busy to avoid laziness and idle talk. Hence, one should keep away from the bad tendencies, raise children with excellent qualities, and let their knowledge be known.

The human tendency is to spend life on the basis of "less work and more talk," which makes one lazy and leads to false self-praise. If a person manages their time after completing their tasks, they will have more time to devote to eradicating bad customs in society.
A child's mind is very easily trapped in temptations and bad tendencies. We should be fully alert so that bad thoughts do not enter their minds. Like a careful farmer, we should constantly clean our minds (like weeding a field). Bad thoughts should be nipped in the bud from the very beginning, so they do not grow. Children should always be engaged in creative work, inspired to do good, instilled with spiritual values, and taught right from wrong. The parents must sacrifice their own comforts to raise their children to be cultured and strong in character by speaking kindly to them.
In the case of youth to middle age:
In the age of modern civilization, the man with his almost total control over the not-self environment through efficient technology, with his global sweep in socio-cultural interests and contacts, and with his yearning for the universal and human, remains and leads a successful life. Yet the disparity between his control over himself and his control over external nature, between his moral efficiency and his technical efficiency, confronts him with the most serious problem that his evolution has so far presented. This is thwarting the realization of his heart's nostalgia for the Universal and human. When neglected and unsolved, this problem may make him the only possible destroyer of his own character and activities. He is destined to move from one tension to another, from one sorrow to another. The only solution lies in the deepening of his moral and spiritual awareness through yoga and meditation.
The human's will is perverse; it seeks the ways of folly; it is his enemy, and it will remain as long as it is in slavery to his animal nature and to the ego centred in that nature. It has to be tuned to divine nature, which will calm him and help him adapt to the environment and face challenges.
'The will that controls the functions of the mind, the vital energies, and the sense-organs, and turns their energies uniformly in the direction of the divine Self within, that will is the satvik will.' quotes the Gita.
Gentlemen and Women. Keep cool. Take care of your children. Be kind to them. Please practise spirituality and teach them to lead a happy life, too.
